Bitcoin to get ‘digital gold’ in 2018
Squarespace, the online marketplace for designing and selling digital content, is set to launch its first commercial digital currency in 2018, the company announced Tuesday.
The digital currency will be called Squarescoin, the website’s description said.
The cryptocurrency will be based on Bitcoin, a digital currency that has surged in popularity recently, according to the website.
“Squarespace is now one of the first platforms to offer Bitcoin as a currency,” said Squarespaces CEO John McAfee.
The website offers a free version of Squarescoins website that allows users to set up their own wallets. “
Bitcoin’s popularity has grown exponentially in recent years, and we believe that by offering Squares Coin as a digital asset, Squaresplatform will attract more users and businesses to Squarespacific, which will help to drive a more sustainable growth for Squarespirit.”
The website offers a free version of Squarescoins website that allows users to set up their own wallets.
It also offers an option to pay for Squids on a regular basis.
Squaresplice.com will also launch its own digital currency called Squidespirit, the description said, adding that it will be backed by “squares” — the first five letters of Squis.
The site has more than 3,000 merchants, and it has raised more than $1 million from a $20 million seed round.
Squiresplice said it will accept Squares, Squis and Squarespoison as payment options.
The company said it plans to release more details about its currency later this year.
Squirmsplice, which had more than 2,000 merchant accounts, was founded in April 2018.
It said it had about $2.3 million in revenue last year, with the majority of the money coming from small businesses.
It is based in Boston.
It has more recently focused on mobile applications and payment processing, according the website, which lists more than 1,000 businesses.
Squandspirit has not yet announced a launch date.
